These images were made with a Holga camera during my second trip to the Galapagos Islands. The first time I went I was 20, almost four months pregnant and single. That time I traveled alone and didn’t tell anybody on the small boat I was expecting. I went to bed early, didn't drink alcohol & just acted like a chicken when asked to dive off the top deck. Not your typical 20-year-old world traveler. I had a crazy desire to see those islands before I got back to the States & I didn’t want to be treated differently so I just let everybody assume I was some weird, boring American. My second trip, taken almost 10 years later, really allowed me to look into who I had become as a person. These images of lava are experimental & risky and also my interpretation of endurance, growth, uniqueness and strength.
